94. What moves God to punish or bless?
A. Disobedience provokes God to righteous anger and to punish sin. (This is God's alien work.)
Judges 2:11-12 And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the LORD and served the Baals. And they abandoned the LORD, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt. They went after other gods, from among the gods of the peoples who were around them. And they provoked the LORD to anger.
Read 2 Chronicles 36:17-21 and Jeremiah 11:17.
B. God's undeserved loving kindness (grace) moves Him to forgive and bless us for the sake of Christ. (This is God's proper work.)
Deuteronomy 7:7-8 It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the LORD set His love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples, but it is because the LORD loves you and is keeping the oath that He swore to your fathers.
Isaiah 54:7-8 "For a brief moment I deserted you, but with great compassion I will gather you. In overflowing anger for a moment I hid My face from you, but with everlasting love I will have compassion on you," says the LORD, your Redeemer.
Read Exodus 34:6-7; Psalm 30:5; Lamentations 3:22-23, 31-33; and 1 John 4:8-10.
