92. What is particularly important about these last two commandments?
A. They remind us that covetousness, or evil desire, is a form of idolatry. Ingratitude and dissatisfaction tempt us to break the other commandments (for example, the Sixth and Seventh Commandments).
James 1:13-15 Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God," for God cannot be tempted with evil, and He Himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.
Colossians 3:5 Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
B. They remind us that God wants us to lvoe Him above and to have holy desires.
Psalm 37:4 Delight yourself in the LORD and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 119:35-36 Lead me in the path of Your commandments, for I delight in it. Incline my heart to Your testimonies, and not to selfish gain!
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
