88. What is coveting?
Coveting is the sinful desire in our hearts to acquire for our selves anything that belongs to our neighbor. It is also the desire to draw away from our neighbor for our own benefit anyone who is important to our neighbor (a spouse, friends, and so on).
Romans 7:8 But sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment produced in me all kinds of covetousness. For apart from the Law, sin lies dead.
James 4:1-2 What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask.
