313. Is it possible for a baptized person to fall from faith and be eternally lost?
Yes. It is true that God's promises in Baptism stand even if we do not believe them. However, all who reject God's promises to them and die in unbelief have abandoned Baptism and do not receive what God has promised. They will be lost.
1 Corintians 10:12 Therefore let anyone who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.
Luke 8:13 And the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the Word, receive it with joy. But these have no root; they believe for a while, and in time of testing fall away.
1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from teh faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons.
