Daily Walk in the Catechism

289. Where do we find our hope in the battle against Satan?

We find our hope and refuge in the Lord Jesus Christ, who frees us from Satan's tyranny by His death and resurrection.

Psalm 46:1-3 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.

2 Thessalonians 3:3 The Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.

Colossians 1:11-14 May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy; giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Note: We sing about our gracious Father's power over evil in "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" (LSB #656, stanza 3):

Though devils all the world should fill,
All eager to devour us,
We tremble not, we fear no ill'
They shall not overpower us.
This world's prince may still
Scowl fierce as he will,
He can harm us none.
He's judged; the deed is done;
One little word can fell him.
