286. What do we ask God our Father to do for us in this petition?
We ask Him to
A. spare us from the many evils of life, such as poverty, sickness, injury, heartache, and miseries;
Psalm 20:1-2 May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble! May the name of the God of Jacob protect you! May He send you help from teh sanctuary and give you support from Zion!
Psalm 59:1 Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; protect me from those who rise up against me.
B. help us endure the troubles that befall us and keep us faithful until death;
Acts 14:22 Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.
Psalm 91:9-10 Because you have made the LORD your dwelling place--the Most High, who is my refuge--no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent.
Proverbs 3:11-12 My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline or be weary of His reproof, for the LORD reproves him whom He loves, as a father the son in whom he delights.

C. keep us faithful to Him, free us from this present evil age, and take us to Himself when we die.
Galatians 1:4-5 [Christ] gave Himself for our sins to delvier us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.
2 Thessalonians 3:3 But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.
2 Timothy 4:18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into His heavenly kingdom. To Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Revelation 14:13 Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.
Revelation 21:4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.
