254. How should we deal with those who dishonor God's name?

A. We should gently admonish those who unknowingly misuse God's name in speech or in teaching.

Galatians 6:1 Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted.

2 Timothy 2:23-25 Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels. And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth.

B. We should firmly rebuke those who persist in their errors and refuse to repent.

Titus 1:9 He must hold firm to the trustworthy Word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.

Titus 3:10 As for a person who stirs up division, after warning him once adn then twice, have nothing more to do with him.
