205. Why does God forgive our sin?

God forgives sins because He is merciful and because of Christ's atoning sacrifice for all sinners.

Psalm 86:15 But You, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, the He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

Ephesians 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace.

1 John 2:2 He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.
