188. What does it mean that the Holy Spirit has called me by the Gospel?
Through the Gospel, the Spirit both invites and enables me to believe by promising me a new life on the basis of Christ's death and resurrection.
2 Thessalonians 2:14 To this He called you through our Gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.
Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the Word of Christ.
1 Peter 1:23, 25 You have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding Word of God. ... This Word is the good news that was preached to you.
Ephesians 1:13 In Him you also, when you heard the Word of truth, the Gospel of your salvation, and believed in Him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit.
Read also John 17:20; Acts 4:31; 1 Corinthians 4:15; and 1 Thessalonians 2:13. The Word of God does more than give information; it actually delivers what it says.
