Daily Walk in the Catechism

181. Is there evidence for the resurrection of Jesus?

The resurrection of Christ is well attested by numerous eyewitnesses.

A. All four Gospels testify to Jesus' bodily resurrection.

B. John and Peter both emphasize that the apostles were eyewitnesses of the risen Lord (Acts 1:3; 2:32; 1 John 1:1-4).

C. Paul refers to over five hundred witnesses to the resurrection of Jesus (1 Corinthians 15:5-9).

D. The New Testament term for witness came to mean "martyr"--because many of the eyewitnesses gave their lives rather than retract their testimony to Jesus' resurrection.
