167. How did Jesus rescue me from the devil?
He defeated Satan by obeying His Father's will throughout His earthly life, even going all the way to the cross, all in our place.
Philippians 2:8 Being found in hamn form, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
Genesis 3:15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.
1 John 3:8 The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.
Read Matthew 4:1-11, about Jesus' temptation. Other passages also explain our rescue from the devil: Luke 8:26-39; Romans 8:31-34; Philippians 2:6-11; Colossians 2:15; Hebrews 2:14; James 4:7; and 1 Peter 5:8-9. Christ always followed the will of the Father for us, in our place--His active obedience. Christ also suffered, in our place, the punishment we deserved for our sin--His passive obedience. See also Galatians 3:12-13.
