163. Why did we need to be redeemed (rescued)? What was our situation?

A. The entire human race lived under the tyranny of sin, death, and the devil.

John 8:34-36 Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remain forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."

Psalm 51:5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.

1 John 5:19 The whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

Galatians 4:8 Formerly, when you did not know God, you were enslaved to those that by nature are not gods.

B. The entire human race stood under the judgment of God.

Ephesians 2:1 You were dead in the trespasses and sins.

Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from Heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.

Ephesians 2:3 We all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by natures children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.
