Daily Walk in the Catechism

162. What are we saying when we confess that Jesus has redeemed us?

We acknowledge that Jesus has rescued and reclaimed us from power we cannot overcome.

Colossians 1:13-14 He has delivered us from the doman of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Titus 2:14 [Jesus] gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession who are zealous for good works.

Hebrews 2:14-15 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise partook of the same things, so that through death He might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.

1 John 3:8 Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.

Read 1 Peter 1:18-21.
