148. What does it mean to confess that Jesus is Lord?
It means to acknowlege that He rules over all things as our Creator and Redeemer, and that Jesus is the Lord God Himself (Yahweh) in our human flesh.
Romans 10:9-10 If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believde in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes nd is justified, and iwth the mouth one confesses and is saved.
Colossians 1:16-20 For by Him [Jesus] all things were created, in Heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the Church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything He might be preeminent. For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether on earth or in Heaven, making peace by the blood of His cross.
Read John 4:42; 20:20-24; and Acts 4:12. See also Romans 10:13; here, Paul confesses that Jesus is Yahweh by quoting Joel 2:32, "Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD [Yahweh] shall be saved." See Question 42 above for more on Yahweh as God's name.
