Daily Walk in the Catechism

143. How do I thank and praise God?

A. I thank God by expressing my gratitude for all that He has done for me.

Psalm 118:1 Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; for His steadfast love endures forever!

1 Timothy 4:4-5 For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, for it is made holy by the Word of God and prayer.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

B. I praise God by proclaiming and praising His works.

Psalm 40:5 You have multiplied, O LORD my God, Your wondrous deeds and Your thoughts toward us; none can compare with You! I will proclaim and tell of them, yet they are more than can be told.

Read Psalm 136 and 145.

C. I thank and praise God as I worship with fellow believers and within my daily routines (see the Daily Prayers).

Psalm 95:1-3 Oh come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into His presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to Him with songs of praise! For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods.

Daniel 6:10 When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously.

Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
