Daily Walk in the Catechism

124. Do ew still have the image of God?

A. Since the fall into sin, we lost the ability to live by faith in God, in perfect love toward one another, and in a proper relationship to creation (original righteousness). In this sense, we have lost the image of God.

Genesis 5:3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he fathered a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth.

1 Corinthians 2:14 The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.

B. However, we still possess unique dignity (or worth) as those who were created in the image of God and were given dominion in creation.

Genesis 9:6 Whoever shed the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for god made man in His own image.

James 3:9 With it [our tongue] we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God.
