Daily Walk in the Catechism

120. What is the significance of having a body and soul for my personal identity and relationships?

A. In giving me a particular body and soul, God has made me either a male or a female.

Genesis 1:27 So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

B. It is with my body and sou--that is, my "eyes, ears, and all my members, my reason and all my senses"--that I relate to God, to other people, to other living things, and to this world.

Psalm 103:1 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name!

Romans 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Or do you not know tha tyour body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

Matthew 22:37 And He said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind."
