114. Why does the Creed confess God as the Maker of Heaven and earth?

A. Only the one who made Heaven and earth can rightly be called God.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

2 Kings 19:15 And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD and said: "O LORD, the God of Israel, enthroned above the cherubim, You are the God, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; You have made Heaven and earth."

B. Only the one who made Heaven and earth can make His creation new again.

2 Peter 3:13 But according to His promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

Revelation 21:5 He who was seated on the throne [Jesus] said, "Behold, I am making all things new."
